The Outstanding Leader Award recognizes troop/group leaders, assistant troop/group leaders, or group coordinators whose performance is so outstanding that it merits recognition by the geographic or program delivery unit.
Criteria
- The candidate is a registered Girl Scout.
- The candidate has completed appropriate training, or demonstrated competence in girl-adult partnership, communication, membership development, and program delivery.
- The candidate’s work with girls has exceeded expectations for the position as outlined in the job description.
Nomination
An individual or group familiar with the candidate’s performance submits an application or a narrative account of the candidate’s accomplishments to the Adult Development Director by April 1st. The application outlines how the service performed has benefited girls.
Troop/group members or their families or both submit two (2) letters of support for the candidate’s nomination, describing the outstanding leadership qualities of the candidate and how the girls have benefited.

The Adult Development Director gives approval.
Form of Recognition
The Outstanding Volunteer Award is a pin depicting a leadership torch against a yellow background.
Presentation of Pin
The Outstanding Leader Award is purchased by the Neighborhood from the Adult Development Director and typically presented at a Neighborhood event with the recipient’s peers.
Examples of Potential Candidates
- The assistant troop leader who recruits and retains an active troop committee (parents, other adults) that results in increased program opportunities for girls in the troop.
- The troop leader who develops a series of activities that give girls the opportunity to interact with people from different cultures in the community.
- A troop leader who plans creative activities that attract a growing number of girls to her troop.
