The Leadership Development Pin recognizes adult troop/group leaders, assistant troop/group leaders, or group coordinators who demonstrate competence, continuous improvement, and participate in training in subject areas that will increase their skills in working with girls.
Basic Criteria
- The candidate is a registered Girl Scout adult.
- The candidate has completed one successful year in the position of troop/group leader, assistant leader, or group coordinator.
- The candidate has completed the appropriate basic job training, or has demonstrated job competence, or both.
- The candidate has participated in at least two meetings or events beyond the troop or groups (geographic area, community, council).
- The candidate has completed training in first aid/car and outdoor education or has secured an adult resource person who has successfully completed such training or its equivalent. (Outdoor education component may be eliminated if the troop is not involved in outdoor activities.)
Approval
The candidate submits an application, which is reviewed by the Neighborhood Chair and submitted to the Adult Development Director for approval.

Form of Recognition
The Leadership Development pin depicts a brown owl on a yellow background. It is earned for the basic criteria. Additional training is recognized with leaves, which can be attached to the Leadership Development Pin.
Additional Training Recognition
Candidates applying to receive leaves need to document their hours of training and describe how the workshop/course has improved their work with girls. Girl Scout, community courses, and on-the-job workshops/training may be applied if it improves your work with girls. Provide a description and/or documentation of the training to your Neighborhood Chair for consideration. Training hours are cumulative and may be completed at one workshop or a series of events.

Represents 10 contact hours or one CEU of training. Five green leaves are replaced by one silver leaf. |
Silver Leaf |
Represents 50 contact hours or 5 CEUs of training. Five silver leaves are replaced by one gold leaf. |
Gold Leaf |
Represents 250 contact hours or 25 CEUs of training. |
Presentation of the Award
The Leadership Development Pin is provided by the Adult Development Director to Neighborhoods and is typically presented at a Neighborhood event with the recipient’s peers.
