SAMPLE INVESTITURE & REDEDICATION CEREMONIES
These ceremonies may be combined for a troop that is investing and rededicating girls and leaders at the same time.
Investiture Ceremony (bringing girls into the World of Girl Scouting)
Preparation: Have the girls know the Girl Scout Promise, have Girl Scout pins for all new girls, ask the girls to help plan, decide who to invite.
Opening: Girls walk in silently each with an unlit candle, to stand in front of a table with one lit candle on it, and the pins.
Ceremony: Each girl steps forward and says the Girl Scout Promise, then lights her candle. When the girls are done, the leader says, “You have made your Promise and lit your candle as a symbol of your commitment to Girl Scouts. We welcome you.”
Closing: Sing “Make New Friends” or “Girl Scouts Together”
Materials: candles for each girl, matches, tablecloth, Girl Scout Pocket Songbook, decorations, refreshments, and clean up items.
Rededication Ceremony (to reaffirm our commitment to Girl Scouting)
Preparation: Ask girls to help plan and who to invite.
Opening: Sing “When E’re You Make a Promise” as the girls walk in and form a horseshoe around the table.
Ceremony: The Girl Scout Promise and Law ceremony with everyone taking part. 13 candles are needed (3 for each part of the Girl Scout Promise and 10 for the Girl Scout Law) with each girl lighting a candle and saying what that part of the Girl Scout Law means to her. Allow each girl to say what she wants; there is no wrong answer.
Closing: Make a Girl Scout Friendship Circle and sing Taps.
Materials: Girl Scout Pocket Songbook, 13 candles, matches, tablecloth, index cards for cue cards, decorations, refreshments, and clean up items.
