Girl Scouts Making a Difference

Girl Scouts far and wide are making a difference, even here in the North Country! If you know someone who should be recognized for their outstanding efforts, contact us!

Chelsea Gardner (Picquet) has received the Bronze Cross Lifesaving Award. She was able to alert her family when their home caught on fire in 2005. Due to her heroic efforts, her entire family was able to make it out of their home safely.

Cassie Kiefer (Fort Drum) was recognized as Youth Volunteer of the Year by Fort Drum. Cassie has done a lot of work both in and out of Girl Scouts, including organizing a self-defense fair for young women. This project also earned Cassie the Gold Award.

Martha and Sarah Redmon (Fort Drum) were recognized as Volunteer Family of the Year by Fort Drum. Both work with several volunteer organizations and have poured countless hours into helping others. Sarah is a recent recipient of the Gold Award for her work with Operation: Education, a program that provides school supplies to children in Iraq.

Anna Lawrence (Picquet), Ellen Wright (Picquet), Erica Kelso (Picquet), Nichole Shafner (Ontario), Ashley Price (Picquet) recently received the Shining Star Award from the TIGSC.  All of these young ladies support their neighborhoods by serving in leadership roles including helping with younger girls, serving as neighborhood delegates (Nichole) and national delegates to Girl Congress ( Nichole, Ellen, Anna). Ellen & Anna were also alternate delegate to the National Session!

Tammy Solberg (Fort Drum) , Carol Kelso (Picquet) , Sue Bice (Picquet) , Linda Griffin (Black River Valley) , Christy Duvall (South Jefferson)  and Jamie Webster (International Rapids) are all adult volunteers in our council who have earned our Appreciation Pin Award. These adults' contributions to our council and our mission to serve girls is immeasurable. They work tirelessly to positively encourage girls in their troop, their neighborhood, and their community at large.

2005-06 Honor Pin recipients were Marilyn Paradis (Raquette Valley) and Kathy Bellinger (TIGSC Staff). Marilyn has worked hard to give her girls the best possible program and opportunities at every turn and we appreciate her! Kathy has overcome personal adversity to continue to show her commitment to the Girl Scout Mission, especially at Camp Trefoil!
