TIGSC Fact Sheet

The Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

The Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place,
and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

PURPOSE
Girl Scouting is an organization that gives girls from all segments of life a chance to develop their potential, to make friends, and to become a vital part of their community. Based on ethical values, it opens up a world of opportunity for girls while working in partnerships with adult volunteers. Its sole focus is to meet the special needs of girls.

MISSION STATEMENT
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.

HISTORY
The Thousand Islands Girl Scout Council, Inc. is one of 316 Girl Scout councils chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA. The council is charged with the responsibility of administering Girl Scouting in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties.

Our council was incorporated in 1963 and it unified several small, northern New York council groups under one central administration. Northern New York’s first Girl Scout troop was the “Lily of the Valley” troop in Redwood. Chartered in 1914, it was one of the first ten troops in the entire United States.

GIRL SCOUT PROGRAM
Our program is a continuous adventure in learning that offers every girl a broad range of activities, which address her current interests as well as her future role as a woman. Through activities that encourage self-discovery, girls are introduced to the excitement in the worlds of the science, the arts, the outdoors, and people. Girls grow in skill and in self-confidence. They have fun, the make new friends, and through meaningful community service, they acquire an understanding about themselves and others.

Our Mission Statement:

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
