Delegate Assembly

The Delegate Assembly represents the democratic power of the Girl Scout organization and the Thousand Islands Girl Scout Council.

Members of the Delegate Assembly are elected for two-year terms by their peers.  Each Neighborhood is entitled to one Delegate plus one additional per 100 girls registered that year, with a minimum of three delegates for each Neighborhood There should be an equal number of alternate delegates elected.  Incoming, returning, and alternate Delegates must be in place, in accordance with our by-laws, by May of each year.

Delegates are the voices of the membership, representing the members of their respective Neighborhoods at scheduled meetings.  Many policies and procedures are developed and reviewed each year by Delegate Assembly members.  Issues regarding TIGSC's policies procedures are brought to the attention of the Delegates and in turn brought to Delegate Assembly meetings for discussion.

Communication is only successful if it works both ways.  In addition to bringing concerns from Neighborhoods members to Delegate Assembly meetings, Delegates must take the issues discussed at the meeting back to the Neighborhood.

Each year, the second Monday of May is TIGSC's Annual Meeting.  Neighborhood Delegates and Managers vote to elect the officers of our Board of Directors, incoming board members, members to the Nominating Committee, as well as changes to TIGSC's By-laws.

Neighborhoods that do not maintain an adequate number of Delegates and participate in the governance of our Council through attendance at Delegate meetings and the Annual Meeting are subject to review and may be reorganized or placed on probation.
