Camp Trefoil Information  

 

 

Camp Trefoil has approximately 200 acres of hilly, rocky, and wooded terrain. It's located 5 miles east of Harrisville, in St. Lawrence County, New York. For more images of Camp Trefoil, click here!

Camp Trefoil is located approximately 40 miles east of Watertown. Campers and staff live in A-frame tents and sleep on cots with mattresses. Cooking and picnic areas are available in each unit. A beach, Nature Center, Lodge and Dining Hall, Infirmary and Craft House are located on site. Horseback riding is provided by Honey Dew Acres in Canton.

Staff works under the supervision of Karen Strife, our Resident Camp Director. Unit Counselors are a minimum of 18 years old. All staff participates in a 7-day intensive training session prior to campers' arrival.

Health and Safety of the girls is the first concern of our staff. The NYS Department of Health inspects our facility twice a year and reports are filed at the Canton District Office located at 58 Gouverneur St, NY 13617. A qualified RN, LPN or EMT is always on duty in the infirmary. If more extensive treatment is needed, we will transport to local facilities. Accident and sickness insurance is carried on all campers and staff. PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS COMPLETED IN THE LAST 24 MONTHS ARE ACCEPTABLE for all campers. School physicals are also acceptable is signed by a school nurse. A physician must sign the medication sheet in order for the camper to receive over the counter drugs. An up to date healthy history, with the date of the last physical exam and the physician's name and address must be completed.

Meals are designed to appeal to all girls and are approved by a dietician. Snacks are also provided. Fresh fruit is always available. Campers will cook out on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Wednesday will be Waterfront Picnic Night. Do not send extra snacks with your daughter.

Camp Trefoil runs a Trading Post with a wide variety of items girls can purchase during their stay. Girls may also purchase a snack. The Trading Post hours include Sunday 3-4 pm, weekday afternoons and Friday evenings during check out.

Horseback Riding is now being offered at Honey Dew Acres in Canton. Girls learn about horse care, how to tack, and how to ride English or Western style. Head instructor Emily Cambridge Carrier, is a Certified Level II Instructor with the American Riding Instructors Association. Campers will also take part in other camp activities as time allows. Waterfront Programs are part of regular daily activities. The Waterfront Director is an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard. All other waterfront staff are ARC Certified Lifeguards. Campers and staff must always wear approved life jackets in watercraft.

C. I. T.s are girls aged 13 to 15 who are thinking about becoming camp counselors. Each girl must take a leadership workshop daily and be willing to assist in various activities as well as regular camp programs. C. I. T.'s will be assigned to units by age.

Camp Aides are 16 year old girls who have completed C. I. T. training. They take First Aid, CPR, Basic Water Rescue and Small Craft Safety trainings. There is a small fee for this program to cover the cost of materials for these courses. Each Camp Aide stays the 3-week block to complete the session, but most go home on weekends. When not taking classes the aides will be assisting in the workshops or the units. Camp Aides will live in Staff Row under the supervision of the Camp Director. The 3 week session is held weeks 2, 3 and 4. Fee of $150.00 covers all weeks plus materials and cards.

Programs: Begin the first week of July and run for six weeks. There are special weekend programs such as Mom and Me, Olympic Passport and PA Bound.

Campers, ages 6-15, take part in traditional camp activities like the Flag Ceremony, Wide Games, Scout's Own and Final Campfire.  Girls also test themselves with "Survivor Challenges," "Pirate Invasion," and the new Challenge Course.

Campers DO NOT have to be Girl Scouts to attend Camp Trefoil. But if you are not a registered Girl Scout,   there is an additional fee of $10.00.

Prices:  Weekly prices range from $105.00-$185.00. "Horse week" prices range from $215.00-$325.00.
