Benefits of Camping for Girls

Research has shown, time and again, how beneficial a camping experience can be to young girls. Here are just some examples:

What is Camp? Peg Smith, executive director of the American Camp Association, says that "The essence of camp is the presence of supportive relationships, meaningful opportunities, and challenging activities in a physically and emotionally safe environment. A place designed for, and with children, where they can explore and discover, an important rite of passage for children, especially for today's children." (CAMP magazine, 2005)

"Camps build life skills- communication, listening, learning to present your ideas to others. Camps teach campers how to value others as much as themselves."

- Bill Tubbs, Director, Camp Huston; Gold Bar, Washington

Our Mission Statement:

Young people need environments that offer positive peer and adult relationships, guidance, structure, high expectations, and opportunities to try new things. This first-of-its- kind national study marks an important step in defining and demonstrating the value of camps as positive developmental contexts."
